Chapter I: Dream

-You sleep as much as a druid Castiel- Castiel opened his eyes, catching the flickering moonlight that made its way through the dense crowns of the trees. Sitting on his bed made of leaves and feathers, he took a minute to bask on the beauty of that familiar scenery before answering to the female sitting at the end of the bed.

-I am not a druid Annay- The female smiled softly as she ran her thin fingers trough her hair. Castiel smiled faintly at the scene, for the last few hundred years, every day he woke up to see Annay brushing her purple hair bathed by moonlight. The first time was as lovers, but both of them knew that they were better off as partners. They had spend so much time together that they knew everything about each other and trusted their life to that bond. Annay poured water into glasses a handed one to Castiel.

-So- said the female while drinking –Have you dream again?- Castiel nodded while the ghost of a smile crossed his lips.

-Well, so far everything that you have saw has come to pass, what is next?- Annay finished her drink and placed her glass in the night table.

-Let’s take a walk-

The two night elves left the inn and walked towards the beach, Even tough the small island was almost abandoned, only inhabitated by a family of fishermen, and mostly overrun by savage beasts, the sight of that cyan sea was as beautiful as the that when the first kaldorei settled themselves in Silvermyst.

-It will happen very soon, I can feel it- the two elves sat down in the wet sand near the shore.

-Are you sure these beings are friendly?-

-They are not Eredar, Annay, in my dreams I can see that. They are good people-

-I have learnt not to question your dreams brother, but for what you have told me, they look like Eredar- said the female doubtfully.

-Yes, they do look like the, but, I can see that they are different. I have seen how they wield the same light that humans do, I have seen their eyes devoid of evil, and I have seen how they protect their kind. I think it is worthy of investigation.- Castiel stared at Annay full of conviction, and she knew that he had already made his mind. The two remained a while contemplating the soft waves washing the shore.

Annay and Castiel had traveled the width and length of Kalimdor, but they always returned to their beloved Ashenvale. Through the centuries they had lived many adventures together, and if the nature of their work wasn’t so secretive, songs and chants would have been written about the Hands of Elune. The Hands of Elune was an occult organization within the Priesthood, only consisting in two members per group. Their work was not a easy one, they were the responsibles of  fighting the threats of other worlds and keeping the secrets of it, there were things, horrible things that the people did not need to know. They were established after the great Sundering by High Priestess Tyrande herself, granting them greater powers than the rest of the Priesthood, but none of the recognizing. It was not an easy work, thus only the most powerful servants of the moon were considered, and of them, only the ones that had heard or seen Elune in any form were asked to join. But Castiel was the exception to that rule.

-Do you know were is going to happen?- Annay queried.

-I’m not sure of that- Standing up, Castiel pointed towards the inn –My best guess is that way, but… I must tell you that they won’t end all in the same place-

-I’m not following you entirely- Annay stood as Castiel took his hand to his forehead.

-Their..Vessel- Castiel tries hard to put in words what he has saw – I’ve seen it cross the sky ravaged in heat… pained. I’ve seen it shatter in the skies, and crash in these lands. I see the fire and the destruction, but then I see someone...- Castiel stops suddenly and smiles.

For the last couple of days, since his dreams started, the priestess had noticed that Castiel’s usual gloom demeanor had faded a little, and ghosts of smiles crossed his face more often, but he wouldn’t tell her why. Annay smiled softly, she only could wait to see what caused the priest “happiness”, or better said, the closest to happiness he could show.

-Let’s get moving then- Annay declared and the two walk towards the inn to collect their equipment.

As they walk through the enchanted forest in relative calm, just a berserking Owlbeast now and then, Castiel seemed absent-minded. Annay noticed this, but as the other times, she knew that she should not ask. In spite and due of all the time they have spent together, the priestess has learnt that there are certain things about her partner that are covered in shadows. Castiel never talks about his life before joining the Hand of Elune, and every time Annay asked him about, she only received a polite change of subject. Sometimes she could hear Castiel pray in the night, asking for forgiveness and guidance, and other times she had to stop him in the heat of the battle when he became feral. And there it was that constant sadness that his eyes spoke of, and his cryptic words about not deserving to meet joy. But at the same time, the priest was the most powerful warrior she had met in her life, and his enemies regretted to mistake his perpetual sadness with weakness. When Castiel needed to make a point, he usually did it in the clearest way possible, usually involving blood and the wrath of the moon.

Indeed Castiel was a being of many contradictions, he had been blessed with dreams by the Moon herself, yet he did not considered himself worthy of such gift. And the most estrange of all things perhaps, were his golden eyes. Golden eyes as bright and flaming as the sun. Those eyes were the sign of untold druidic power, but instead he choose the path of Elune. Several druids had tried to convince him to follow the way of Cenarius, but he always claimed that his heart and soul were with Elune. But Annay could see the sorrow in his golden eyes everytime he had to turn the druids down. A long time ago the priestess had came to the conclusion that something was wrong with Castiel. Or at lest he thought so.

As they walked in silence trough the shallow river at the north-east of the smallest isle of Silvermyst. Annay again thought of how much Castiel’s mood had changed in the past few days. Since he had the first dream about this blue skinned people, Castiel seemed... happier, which was a big contrast to his usual saddened self, and for the first time since she knew him, it seemed as if Castiel was waiting for something, not just going trough the motions. Castiel was one of the best, there was no way to deny it, but there was something about the way he fought, always endangering his safety, almost like if he wanted to die.

When he communicated his dreams to the High Priestess, they were sent to investigate. In the past years, Castiel’s dreams have been regarded almost as prophecies, although, no one was sure of the real origin of those dreams. It had been easier to attribute the to Elune. Blessed by Tyrande, both priests departed to the  western islands. Annay had noticed, that each dawn since these dreams started, the priest woke up with a smile on his face, and then remained basking on the feeling of the dream. Annay first tough was how could he be so happy about a dream that spoke of destruction and fire, she knew that there were something more to it.

-You know Castiel- Said Annay breaking the silence –If this works out well, I will go to Darnassus and stay there a little while, will you come with me?-

-You know that I don’t like large cities… but thanks for asking as always- They walked a few more feet in comfortable silence.

-Are you going to tell me why you smile more often now? Castiel stared at the priestess a bit surprised, making her smirk – Did you really thought I hadn’t noticed it?-

Castiel smiled again, as he was unable to control it. For a moment the thought of  “Is Castiel really okay?” crossed Annay’s mind.

-I think I will meet someone....- After this cryptic words Castiel remained silent, Annay sighed and looked upwards “That explain some things”.

The morning sun shone proud in the sky as they reached the shore of the bigger island. Ages ago, before the great Sundering, the kaldorei civilization discovered and lived in these beautiful islands, but now only ruins remained of those glorious days. Annay could remember how things were so much different back then, before they beloved queen almost doomed the entire world by letting the demons in. And because of that decision, Castiel life was marked.

-----0-----

The dark forest ahead seemed enchanted by an eternal song, much as Ashenvale did, but this melody spoke of loneliness and abandonment. If Castiel had a song, it would sound like this, yet today, the priest would learn a new song that spoke of something entirely new. As the priests walked trough the mist covered forest, a loud sound broke the perennial calm. It sounded like if the skies were breaking and screaming in pain.

-It is happening now- Castiel started to run fast, as if the fate of the world depended on it, and Annay followed close. They run as fast as they could, faster than any human could even dream of. Dodging branches and rocks, the priests finally saw daylight at the end of the forest. They gazed at the blue sky, a purple vessel engulfed in flames, shattering into pieces. Castiel frowned, he blamed himself for focusing in the other aspects of the dream..

-Oh my Goddess...- Said Annay watching the explosion in the sky, she could almost see people falling trough. Then she saw them. A small module of the vessel felt dangerously close of the priests, charging the air with heat and the smell of burning wood and flesh. The purples and greens of the landscape were replaced by shades of burning red, and horrible screams.

-We have to tend the hurt!! Castiel run swiftly to the crash site, followed close by Annay. The priests looked frenetically for survivors, using their Elune-given powers to dissipate the fire.

-I found one!! Screamed Annay, while her eyes glowed white, channeling the healing powers of the goddess.-Are you able to move?- the strange blue being opened his eyes and stared at her afraid –I won’t hurt you- said while soothing him. Annay looked around and could not fin Castiel among the burning debris. The blue being besides her stood up, revealing his enormous height.

-Faralos Maev!!!- Annay gestured that she did not understood him. The Blue being spoke again – I need to find my brother- In a somewhat perfect darnassian.

-How do you...?- But before she could end the blue being tried to run to look for his brother, only to collapse a few feet away. –Your leg is hurt- Annay could see the preoccupation on the being as he tried to stand up, failing every time –We will find your brother- After she said this, a bright white light shone in the middle of the burning debris. Then she saw Castiel holding another of those creatures in his arms.

-De’an!!! Shouted the one besides Annay. The priestess then saw Castiel smiling and the one called De’an saying:

-I knew you would come-
